About the role
This is a technical interview about statistical judgement in health and research settings. The panel will assess how you define an analysis before looking at results, choose and diagnose models, handle missing data, produce reproducible work and explain uncertainty to collaborators.
How to prepare
- Review a statistical analysis plan you developed and the choices that required the most judgement.
- Revise regression assumptions, clustered and repeated observations, missing data and sensitivity analysis.
- Prepare to explain effect size, confidence intervals and practical importance without relying on jargon.
- Practise describing an R workflow that separates source data, cleaning, analysis and reporting.
- Choose an example where you challenged a requested analysis and proposed a better approach.
Common mistakes
- Choosing a test from the variable names without considering the study design.
- Treating a p-value as the size or importance of an effect.
- Using complete cases without discussing the missingness mechanism.
- Describing code that cannot be traced to a controlled data version.
