About the role
This interview tests how you would find and qualify merchants for a payments product, not simply how confidently you can sell. The panel wants thoughtful prospecting, a clear grasp of merchant problems, disciplined follow-up and honest handling of commercial objections.
How to prepare
- Review how merchants may collect, reconcile and receive payment settlements across different channels.
- Practise discovery questions that uncover transaction flow, customer pain and decision criteria.
- Prepare an example of persuading someone through evidence and careful follow-up.
- Build a simple approach for ranking prospects by fit and likelihood to progress.
- Rehearse responding to objections without criticising another provider or inventing product claims.
Common mistakes
- Starting a pitch before understanding how the merchant currently accepts payments.
- Confusing a long contact list with a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Offering unapproved terms just to keep a prospect interested.
