About the role
This interview tests how you buy technically sensitive goods and services without losing control of cost, quality or delivery. The panel will look for fair bid analysis, firm supplier management, useful negotiation and records that make each recommendation easy to defend.
How to prepare
- Review how you normalise bids with different specifications, currencies, taxes and delivery terms.
- Prepare an example of negotiating value beyond a lower unit price.
- Choose a late-delivery case where you tested a supplier's recovery plan and protected the required date.
- Revise approval, conflict-of-interest and competitive-bidding controls.
- Be ready to explain how you work with engineering when a proposed substitute differs from the request.
Common mistakes
- Choosing on price before confirming technical compliance and total landed cost.
- Accepting a promised delivery date without checking capacity and manufacturing milestones.
- Treating urgent demand as a reason to bypass approvals or competition.
- Claiming savings without explaining the baseline and any change in scope or terms.
