About the role
This is a leadership interview about the commercial health of construction projects, not only quantity surveying technique. The panel wants evidence that you can forecast honestly, manage contractual exposure, improve cash and margin, and lead commercial staff through pressure and disagreement.
How to prepare
- Prepare a project example where you identified margin or cash risk early and changed the outcome.
- Review how you govern forecasts, change control, subcontract liabilities and client applications.
- Choose a claim or dispute that shows your judgement on entitlement, evidence and settlement strategy.
- Think through how you challenge a delivery leader while keeping the project team aligned.
- Prepare an example of developing a quantity surveyor or correcting weak commercial discipline.
Common mistakes
- Focusing on revenue while ignoring cash collection, liabilities and forecast credibility.
- Describing aggressive claims as a substitute for sound entitlement and records.
- Blaming project teams for poor data without explaining the controls you introduced.
- Giving only technical answers when the role requires leadership and business judgement.
