About the role
This interview tests how you turn agricultural market information into disciplined buying and selling decisions. The panel will look for commercial judgement, control of price and counterparty risk, knowledge of quality and logistics, and credible relationships across the trade.
How to prepare
- Review the production cycles, grades, storage risks and main demand drivers for commodities relevant to the role.
- Prepare a trade example showing how you formed a view, negotiated terms and measured the result.
- Practise explaining how you calculate a trade margin when transport, handling and storage costs may change.
- Think through how you would respond to a quality dispute, delayed delivery or defaulting counterparty.
- Prepare an example of an ethical decision that protected the business or a trading relationship.
Common mistakes
- Talking about price direction without explaining the evidence behind your view.
- Ignoring quality, storage and logistics costs when discussing margin.
- Presenting aggressive negotiation as a substitute for reliable counterparties and clear terms.
- Hiding a poor trade instead of explaining the controls and lessons that followed.
