About the role
A community engagement assistant helps programmes communicate with communities and listen to them in return. The panel is assessing whether you can earn trust, support inclusive participation and handle concerns without becoming defensive. They also need evidence that your reports will represent what people actually said.
How to prepare
- Plan how you would enter a community through appropriate leaders while still reaching other groups.
- Prepare an example of facilitating a discussion or resolving a misunderstanding.
- Practise explaining a programme limit without sounding dismissive.
- Think of practical meeting arrangements that make participation more inclusive.
- Review how to record feedback, actions and unresolved complaints.
Common mistakes
- Treating local leaders as the only voice of the community.
- Promising that every request or complaint will be approved.
- Using technical programme language when a simple explanation is needed.
- Reporting only positive comments and leaving out criticism.
