About the role
A consumer insights analyst explains the behaviour behind market and customer signals, then helps teams make better choices. The panel is looking for careful synthesis across research and commercial data, curiosity about alternative explanations, and the ability to turn an insight into action without losing its limits.
How to prepare
- Select an insight project and trace how separate observations became a supported explanation and decision.
- Review how you judge the strengths and limits of survey, interview, behavioural and sales evidence.
- Prepare an example where the data contradicted a team's belief and explain how you handled the discussion.
- Practise separating an observation, an insight, an implication and a recommendation.
- Study the organisation's category and identify questions you would investigate rather than assumptions you would make.
Common mistakes
- Renaming a data point as an insight without explaining the behaviour behind it.
- Ignoring evidence that does not support the preferred story.
- Making broad claims about consumers when the evidence covers a narrow group or context.
