About the role

A corporate banking intern supports teams that serve larger companies with lending, cash management and transaction services. The interview tests whether you can understand a business, work accurately with financial information and communicate useful findings without claiming more expertise than you have.

How to prepare

  1. Revise the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement and how they connect.
  2. Choose a company and practise identifying its business model, customers, costs and main risks.
  3. Review working capital concepts such as receivables, inventory and payables.
  4. Practise building a simple, clearly labelled spreadsheet with checks on key calculations.
  5. Prepare an example of finding and correcting an error in your work.

Common mistakes

  • Reciting financial ratios without explaining what they reveal about the business.
  • Assuming sales growth always means stronger cash flow or lower credit risk.
  • Presenting an unsupported opinion as if it were a verified fact.
