About the role
A cybersecurity consulting analyst gathers evidence, identifies control gaps and helps clients choose proportionate improvements. The panel will test your security foundations, judgement under operational constraints and ability to discuss sensitive weaknesses in a calm, useful way.
How to prepare
- Review how assets, threats, vulnerabilities, likelihood, impact and controls fit into a risk assessment.
- Prepare examples involving access management, vulnerability handling, incident response or security awareness.
- Practise asking for evidence such as system settings, tickets, access reviews and approved procedures.
- Think through compensating controls when an ideal fix cannot be implemented immediately.
- Practise writing a finding with condition, risk, evidence and a feasible recommendation.
Common mistakes
- Ranking findings only by a scanning tool score without considering the client's exposure and assets.
- Assuming a written policy proves that a control operates in practice.
- Using alarming language or blaming staff when presenting a security weakness.
