About the role
This interview focuses on the practical engineering of medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution networks. The panel wants to see how you interpret feeder data, restore supply after faults, choose reinforcement options and coordinate safe work around customers and field constraints.
How to prepare
- Review voltage drop, feeder loading, fault level and technical loss calculations.
- Prepare an example of sectionalising a network to isolate a fault and restore healthy sections.
- Think through the trade-offs among reconductoring, transformer addition, load transfer and network reconfiguration.
- Revise field survey, shutdown planning, earthing and worksite control practices.
- Prepare a network improvement example supported by before and after operating data.
Common mistakes
- Proposing reinforcement before confirming the load profile, conductor condition and voltage evidence.
- Restoring supply without a clear isolation boundary and field confirmation.
- Discussing losses as though every missing unit is a technical loss.
- Ignoring access, outage communication and constructability when presenting a design.
