About the role
This interview focuses on practical work across a distribution network, from patrols and service connections to fault response and restoration. The panel wants structured fault thinking, sound installation basics, accurate reporting and strong control of risks to workers and the public.
How to prepare
- Review radial distribution networks, distribution transformers, fuses, breakers, isolators and service connections.
- Practise narrowing a fault from customer reports, protective-device status, patrol findings and test results.
- Revise safe isolation, earthing, work at height, traffic control and how to protect the public near damaged assets.
- Prepare to explain checks for phase identification, connection tightness and load imbalance.
- Think through how you would record the exact location, asset tag, condition and urgency of a field defect.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a reported outage identifies the faulty component without checking the network arrangement.
- Approaching a fallen conductor because it appears dead.
- Restoring supply before confirming that the faulted section is isolated and the network is ready.
- Leaving incomplete location or asset details in a patrol report.
