About the role
This manager interview focuses on the electrical reliability of a generating station and the safe delivery of routine and outage maintenance. The panel will test whether you can set a risk-based strategy, diagnose repeat failures, control contractors and release equipment only when the technical evidence is sound.
How to prepare
- Review failure modes and condition indicators for generators, transformers, switchgear, motors, batteries and excitation systems.
- Prepare an example of converting a repeat defect into a verified reliability improvement.
- Map out an outage plan with scope challenge, materials, isolations, quality hold points, testing and handback.
- Think through how you rank critical spares using consequence, detectability, lead time and interchangeability.
- Prepare evidence of improving technician capability or contractor performance.
Common mistakes
- Describing calendar maintenance without considering condition, consequence and operating duty.
- Replacing failed equipment without establishing the physical and organisational causes.
- Leaving testing and commissioning criteria until the end of an outage.
- Reducing spares purely on purchase price without considering outage exposure and lead time.
