About the role
This interview covers the practical analysis of meter, feeder and operational data rather than abstract statistics alone. The panel wants to see sound checks for imperfect data, confidence with spreadsheets or SQL, careful use of units and the ability to turn patterns into sensible questions for field and operations teams.
How to prepare
- Practise aggregating interval readings into daily consumption and maximum demand while keeping units consistent.
- Review methods for finding missing timestamps, duplicates, resets and implausible values.
- Prepare a simple dashboard and be ready to explain each measure and comparison.
- Revise SQL grouping, window functions and joins for meter readings and customer records.
- Think through how weather, outages, estimated readings and customer behaviour can affect an energy trend.
Common mistakes
- Filling gaps without marking assumptions or checking how much data is missing.
- Mixing power and energy units or comparing periods of different lengths.
- Building a crowded dashboard that does not help an operator decide what to check.
- Presenting correlation as proof of the cause of a loss or demand change.
