About the role

A crop production supervisor converts the farm plan into safe, well-timed work in the field. The interview explores how you deploy crews, coordinate machinery and inputs, inspect quality, maintain records and respond when weather or equipment changes the plan.

How to prepare

  1. Map the main activities in a crop cycle and the checks needed before each task begins.
  2. Prepare an example of supervising a field crew and correcting work that was below standard.
  3. Review how you issue, reconcile and report seed, fertiliser and crop protection inputs.
  4. Think through how weather, equipment availability and crop stage affect daily priorities.
  5. Practise describing a safety briefing in clear instructions that a field crew can follow.

Common mistakes

  • Listing tasks without explaining how crop urgency and resources determine their order.
  • Relying on verbal reports instead of inspecting completed field work.
  • Treating input discrepancies as routine without tracing the records and physical stock.
  • Pushing crews to continue when weather, machinery or chemical handling creates an unsafe condition.
