About the role
This interview covers how you create womenswear that is distinctive, wearable and ready for production. The panel will look for a strong design process, practical knowledge of fabric and fit, commercial awareness and clear collaboration with the production team.
How to prepare
- Select collection projects that show research, development, fitting changes and final garments.
- Prepare to explain why you chose particular fabrics, silhouettes and construction methods.
- Review how you translate a design into measurements and instructions for a pattern cutter or machinist.
- Think of a design you changed because of cost, customer feedback or production limits.
- Study the employer's customer and product range, then identify where your point of view could fit.
Common mistakes
- Showing attractive final images without explaining the decisions behind them.
- Choosing fabric without considering drape, recovery, care or production behaviour.
- Treating cost and repeatable construction as problems for someone else to solve.
- Describing trends without showing a clear understanding of the target customer.
