About the role
This interview tests how you approach suspected fraud, preserve evidence and analyse control failures without jumping to conclusions. The panel is looking for discretion, careful documentation and writing that separates verified facts from assumptions.
How to prepare
- Review common procurement, payroll and expense fraud indicators and the legitimate activity that can resemble them.
- Practise mapping a suspicious transaction from source document to approval, ledger entry and payment.
- Prepare an example of how you handled sensitive information or an ambiguous finding responsibly.
- Refresh spreadsheet filters, lookups, duplicate checks and methods for keeping an analysis trail.
- Practise writing a short finding with evidence, limitation, risk and recommended next step.
Common mistakes
- Treating an unusual pattern as proof of fraud before testing other explanations.
- Changing a source file without preserving the original and recording what you did.
- Using accusatory language when the evidence supports only a qualified finding.
- Focusing on the individual transaction while ignoring the control weakness that allowed it.
