About the role
This interview examines the controls that keep a fund's records, values and investor transactions accurate. The panel will test your understanding of valuation inputs, reconciliations, dealing cut-offs and how you coordinate a correction when several teams are involved.
How to prepare
- Revise the components of fund valuation, including prices, cash, accrued income, expenses and units.
- Practise investigating differences among portfolio, accounting and custodian records.
- Review the controls around subscriptions, redemptions and dealing cut-offs.
- Prepare an example of correcting an error while protecting downstream reporting.
- Think through how stale prices, failed trades and corporate actions affect a fund value.
Common mistakes
- Treating the fund value as a system output that does not require reasonableness checks.
- Adjusting a break without identifying its effect on investors and reporting.
- Ignoring dealing rules when a commercially important request arrives late.
