About the role
This interview tests whether you can produce reliable public sector accounts while keeping expenditure within approved controls. The panel will look for practical IPSAS knowledge, careful reconciliations, sound audit evidence and the courage to challenge unsupported transactions.
How to prepare
- Review the main recognition and presentation issues you have handled under the relevant IPSAS basis.
- Prepare an example of resolving a difficult bank, ledger or inter-agency reconciliation.
- Revise how commitments, budget balances and supporting documents are controlled before payment.
- Think through how you would respond to pressure to process an irregular transaction.
- Check the official public finance guidance that applies to the recruiting institution.
Common mistakes
- Reciting standards without explaining the accounting judgement required.
- Treating a reconciliation difference as immaterial without investigating it.
- Ignoring approval limits because a request is urgent.
