About the role
This interview tests whether a graduate architect can connect creative ideas with the realities of materials, weather, access and construction. The panel will use your portfolio to understand how you think, what you produced yourself and how ready you are to learn within a professional design team.
How to prepare
- Rehearse a short explanation of each selected portfolio project, starting with the brief and site.
- Identify exactly which drawings, models and design decisions were your own work.
- Review common building elements and how plans, sections and details communicate them.
- Prepare an example of revising a design after a critique or technical constraint.
- Research the kinds of projects the role covers without memorising promotional language.
Common mistakes
- Discussing the visual concept while ignoring circulation, climate or buildability.
- Presenting group work without distinguishing your personal contribution.
- Reading text from portfolio pages instead of explaining your thinking.
- Suggesting that technical documentation matters less than early design ideas.
