About the role
This interview is for a graduate supporting mechanical, electrical and plumbing design or delivery on building projects. The panel wants broad services awareness, careful drawing coordination, a logical approach to testing problems and the maturity to work within safety and approval procedures.
How to prepare
- Review the purpose and main components of common ventilation, power, lighting, water and drainage systems.
- Practise describing how coordinated services drawings and models prevent clashes before installation.
- Revise the inputs used in simple electrical, cooling or water demand calculations.
- Prepare an example of solving a practical laboratory, design or installation problem with evidence.
- Think about safe boundaries for a graduate during inspections and commissioning.
Common mistakes
- Speaking as if mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems can be designed without coordination.
- Giving a load estimate without stating occupancy, equipment, operating conditions or diversity assumptions.
- Suggesting that an unapproved site deviation should simply be reflected in the next drawing.
- Ignoring isolation, permits or competent supervision during testing.
