About the role
A graphic designer creates visuals for brands, from social media posts and adverts to packaging and reports. Day to day you work from briefs, keep designs on brand, take feedback and meet tight deadlines. The panel is deciding whether your work looks good and also solves the problem in the brief.
How to prepare
- Choose your strongest four to six projects and be ready to explain the brief, your choices and the result.
- Study the company's brand and current designs and note what you would keep or improve.
- Prepare an example of feedback you disagreed with and how you handled it.
- Be ready to explain your choices on layout, typography and colour in plain words.
- Think about how you manage several deadlines at once without the quality dropping.
Common mistakes
- Showing too many projects and none of them explained.
- Talking about style and personal taste instead of what the brief needed.
- Getting defensive when the panel comments on your work.
