About the role
This interview focuses on mastery of bespoke garment construction and the ability to run a disciplined workshop. The panel will test how you diagnose fit, protect valuable materials, sequence work and develop other tailors. They are also assessing how you communicate honestly with demanding clients.
How to prepare
- Review fitting faults you have corrected and be ready to explain their causes.
- Prepare examples covering structured garments, delicate fabrics and complex finishing.
- Map how you allocate work and inspect quality through each workshop stage.
- Think of a delivery risk you recovered without lowering the standard.
- Prepare an example of resolving a client's unrealistic request during a fitting.
Common mistakes
- Naming alterations without first diagnosing posture, balance and construction.
- Focusing only on your own sewing rather than how you lead the workshop.
- Promising a client an effect the cloth or construction cannot support.
- Leaving quality checks until the garment is fully assembled.
