About the role
This interview is for the senior leader accountable for teaching, safety, staff performance and the daily experience of pupils in a primary school. The panel wants sound educational judgement, visible leadership and evidence that you can improve outcomes while retaining the trust of families and staff.
How to prepare
- Review how you have used assessment, observation and pupil work to improve teaching.
- Prepare an example of addressing weak staff performance with both support and clear expectations.
- Rehearse the steps you take when a safeguarding concern is disclosed.
- Think through how you set priorities when several parts of a school need attention.
- Choose an example of explaining an unpopular decision to families or governors.
Common mistakes
- Describing school leadership as administration rather than improvement in teaching and learning.
- Offering informal solutions to safeguarding concerns instead of following reporting procedures.
