About the role

A front office agent welcomes guests, checks them in and out, handles reservations and payments and deals with complaints. You are often the first and last face a guest sees. The panel is checking warmth, accuracy and calm under pressure.

How to prepare

  1. Practise a warm, clear check-in greeting you can deliver naturally.
  2. Prepare an example of turning an unhappy customer into a satisfied one.
  3. Think through how you handle an overbooking or a room that is not ready.
  4. Be ready to explain how you handle cash, card and transfer payments accurately.
  5. Learn the hotel's rooms, rates and facilities from its public information.

Common mistakes

  • Arguing with a guest instead of listening and solving the problem.
  • Being careless about payments and cash handling.
  • Looking or sounding unprepared, which matters in a front facing role.
