About the role
This interview tests how you manage safety and environmental risk where people, machinery, energy and production targets meet. The panel is looking for visible field judgement, strong investigations, effective control of non-routine work and leadership that makes line supervisors responsible for safe execution.
How to prepare
- Review how you assess machinery, electrical, chemical and work-at-height risks at the point of work.
- Prepare an investigation where your findings changed a system, design or supervisory control.
- Think through permit and isolation checks for contractor work during a tight shutdown window.
- Be ready to describe an emergency drill and the practical weakness it revealed.
- Identify leading measures that show whether critical controls are working before an injury occurs.
Common mistakes
- Relying on induction and personal protective equipment when the hazard can be removed or engineered out.
- Describing permit forms without explaining field verification and energy isolation.
- Ending investigations with worker error instead of examining equipment, planning and supervision.
- Using low injury counts as the only evidence that serious risks are controlled.
