About the role
This is an early-career interview for supporting trade mark, copyright and related intellectual property work. The panel is testing whether you know the basic categories of protection, can search and record information carefully, respect deadlines and protect commercially sensitive material.
How to prepare
- Revise the differences between trade marks, copyright, patents, designs and confidential information.
- Practise explaining the purpose and limits of a basic trade mark clearance search.
- Prepare an example of accurate record keeping or deadline tracking from study, work or volunteering.
- Review how you would request missing ownership, creator and use details from a client.
- Check the relevant official registry for current filing categories and procedures before the interview.
Common mistakes
- Saying one form of protection covers every feature of a product or brand.
- Treating a preliminary search as proof that registration will succeed.
- Forgetting to verify names, ownership details, classes or deadlines before recording them.
- Discussing a client's unreleased work outside the authorised team.
