About the role
This interview tests how you protect, commercialise and enforce trade marks, copyright and other intellectual property rights. The panel wants careful legal analysis, precise drafting and advice that reflects the value of the asset and the client's appetite for risk.
How to prepare
- Revise how ownership, registration and infringement differ across the main intellectual property rights.
- Prepare an example of a search, filing, opposition, licence or enforcement matter you handled.
- Practise turning a rights dispute into a short options note with cost, evidence and business impact in view.
- Review common ownership, permitted use, territory, payment and termination clauses in licence agreements.
- Be ready to explain how you protect confidentiality while discussing previous client matters.
Common mistakes
- Assuming registration alone resolves every ownership or infringement question.
- Recommending immediate litigation without testing the evidence and commercial objective.
- Describing confidential client work in enough detail to identify the parties.
- Drafting broad rights without addressing territory, duration or permitted use.
