About the programme
An international foundation year interview checks whether you are ready for a bridging programme before undergraduate study. The interviewer considers your intended degree, current academic base, English communication, study habits and willingness to adapt to unfamiliar teaching and assessment.
How to prepare
- Be ready to explain why a foundation year is useful for your route into the intended degree.
- Review core school topics related to the pathway you selected.
- Build a realistic weekly approach for classes, independent work and overlapping deadlines.
- Practise describing how you plan, draft and improve a piece of academic work in English.
- Prepare an example of responding to a setback or changing an ineffective study habit.
Common mistakes
- Treating the foundation year as an automatic route into a degree rather than a demanding academic programme.
- Giving a degree goal without explaining the preparation still needed.
- Saying your English is good or poor without identifying a particular skill and improvement method.
- Describing a timetable that leaves no room to review feedback or recover from delays.
