About the role
A key account executive manages the commercial and operational relationship with organised retail customers. The interview tests whether you can plan an account, negotiate with evidence, execute promotions across stores and resolve deductions without damaging the relationship.
How to prepare
- Prepare a negotiation where you exchanged value instead of simply conceding on price.
- Review the measures you use for sales, availability, promotion performance and account profitability.
- Think through the dependencies between forecasts, orders, deliveries, merchandising and buyer communication.
- Prepare an example of a disputed claim or deduction you helped resolve.
- Practise presenting a concise account growth recommendation.
Common mistakes
- Treating revenue as success without considering margin, claims or payment terms.
- Promising a buyer support that operations or finance has not approved.
- Describing headquarters agreements without showing how you checked store execution.
