About the role
This interview tests your ability to produce trustworthy results from petroleum product samples. The panel will assess how you prevent contamination, follow approved methods, recognise doubtful data and handle flammable or volatile materials safely.
How to prepare
- Revise representative sampling, sample labelling, storage and custody controls.
- Review the purpose of common tests such as density, flash point, viscosity and water content.
- Practise explaining how you would investigate a failed repeatability or quality-control check.
- Review ventilation, ignition control, spill response and waste handling for petroleum samples.
- Prepare an example of accurate laboratory record keeping from study, training or work.
Common mistakes
- Treating a poorly taken sample as if precise testing can correct it.
- Repeating a failed result until one passes without investigating the variation.
- Reporting a number without its unit, method or sample reference.
- Ignoring vapour, ignition and waste hazards because the sample volume is small.
