About the role
This interview tests whether you can plan and execute dependable molecular biology work, not simply name techniques. The panel is looking for sound controls, disciplined troubleshooting, careful interpretation and records that make an experiment reproducible.
How to prepare
- Revise extraction, PCR and quantitative assay workflows, including the purpose of positive, negative and internal controls.
- Prepare an experiment you designed and explain how you selected samples, replicates and acceptance criteria.
- Choose an example of a failed assay and trace your troubleshooting decisions in order.
- Review how you prevent contamination, record deviations and maintain sample traceability.
- Practise explaining uncertain results without overstating what the data supports.

- Listing techniques without explaining controls, decisions or outcomes.
- Treating every unusual result as a biological finding before ruling out technical error.
- Proposing a repeat run without a structured investigation of the original failure.
