About the role
This internship introduces the coordination of vessel, yard, gate and truck activity around a port terminal. Interviewers do not expect deep experience, but they do expect curiosity, accurate observation and respect for the strict safety controls around heavy equipment and moving cargo.
How to prepare
- Learn the basic journey of import and export containers through a port terminal.
- Review the roles of the vessel agent, terminal, customs, freight forwarder and truck operator.
- Prepare an example of recording observations and turning them into a clear summary.
- Think about hazards created by cranes, trucks, containers and restricted areas.
- Practise asking for clarification without interrupting a critical operation.
Common mistakes
- Presenting guesses about an operational delay as confirmed facts.
- Assuming a high-visibility vest makes it safe to enter any terminal area.
- Focusing on ships while overlooking yard, gate and truck coordination.
