About the role
This interview tests whether an intern can learn safely in a power station and contribute to disciplined plant operations. Expect questions on the generation process, trends and logs, abnormal conditions, shift communication and when to escalate.
How to prepare
- Review the energy conversion stages and major auxiliary systems for the type of generating plant relevant to the vacancy.
- Learn why operators trend temperature, pressure, flow, vibration, current and voltage rather than relying on one reading.
- Practise describing how you would report an abnormal condition with the time, equipment tag, reading and recent change.
- Revise permit-to-work, isolation and emergency-response principles for an industrial plant.
- Prepare an example of learning a technical procedure and applying feedback carefully.
Common mistakes
- Treating a reading below its alarm point as safe without considering its trend.
- Making an adjustment before confirming the equipment, instruction and authority to act.
- Giving a shift handover that omits abnormal conditions or actions already taken.
- Describing safety as personal caution instead of a controlled plant process.
