About the audition
A presenter or host casting interview helps producers decide who can front a show, event or channel. They look at your on-air experience, how you connect with an audience, how you think on your feet, how you prepare for a show and how you interview guests.
How to prepare
- Prepare a short introduction of yourself that sounds natural, not memorised.
- Practise filling 30 seconds smoothly when a guest is late or a link fails.
- Research the show's audience and tone so you can match it.
- Prepare a few strong guest interview examples, including one that went off plan.
- Watch or listen back to your own clips and note habits you want to fix.
Common mistakes
- Talking over guests instead of listening and following up.
- Performing a fixed style instead of adapting to the show's audience.
- Freezing or rambling when something unexpected happens.
