About the role
A private tutor works one to one or with small groups to close learning gaps and prepare students for exams such as WAEC and JAMB. You find where a student is stuck, plan tailored lessons, report progress to parents and turn up on time, every time. The panel wants reliability and results.
How to prepare
- Plan how you would find a new student's gaps in the first session.
- Prepare an example of a student you helped improve and how you did it.
- Know the syllabus and exam format for the subjects you teach.
- Think through how you report progress to parents simply and honestly.
- Be ready to explain how you handle a student who is not motivated.
Common mistakes
- Promising grades instead of explaining how you will help.
- Teaching the same way for every student.
- Ignoring the reliability side of the job, such as punctuality and cancellations.
