About the role
A procurement analyst turns fragmented purchasing data into sourcing and contract decisions for areas such as facilities, travel, technology and professional services. The interviewer will test how you clean data, compare commercial offers, validate savings and influence colleagues while keeping the process fair and traceable.
How to prepare
- Practise cleaning supplier names, categorising transactions and building a clear spend summary in Excel.
- Prepare an example where your analysis changed a sourcing, negotiation or contract decision.
- Review how you calculate total cost and test whether reported savings are real and repeatable.
- Think through how you would investigate off-contract buying and repeated urgent requests.
- Be ready to explain an analytical finding without relying on technical language.
Common mistakes
- Calling every price reduction a saving without checking volume, scope and baseline assumptions.
- Ranking suppliers on price alone when service gaps and contract risks change the real cost.
- Presenting a detailed spreadsheet without a clear recommendation for the budget owner.
