About the role
This interview tests whether you can shape a radio programme and keep it coherent when live conditions change. The panel wants evidence of sound editorial judgement, confident studio decisions, clean audio production and clear coordination with presenters and contributors.
How to prepare
- Study the station's formats and audiences, then sketch a running order for one typical programme.
- Prepare an example of a live production problem and explain the decisions you made in sequence.
- Review your process for recording, editing and checking speech audio before transmission.
- Practise explaining how you brief presenters and contributors without overloading them.
- Choose examples that show how you protected accuracy while working to a fixed transmission time.
Common mistakes
- Describing programme ideas without explaining timing, audience or practical delivery.
- Treating silence, overruns or failed links as problems for the presenter alone.
- Discussing software while overlooking editorial accuracy and audio quality.
