About the audition
A reality show screening is a producer conversation used to understand how you may come across in an unscripted cast. Producers look for a genuine point of view, engaging communication, constructive group behaviour, sound judgement under pressure and a realistic understanding of the filming commitment.
How to prepare
- Choose a few true stories that show how you behave in groups, including one where you made a mistake.
- Practise explaining what makes you interesting without inventing a louder television persona.
- Think through how you handle chores, limited privacy, disagreement and changing instructions.
- Review the casting information and note any conditions or boundaries you need clarified.
- Confirm which periods you could genuinely make available for filming.
Common mistakes
- Performing a confrontational character because you think producers only want drama.
- Claiming you never argue or never make mistakes.
- Sharing private information about other people to make your story more dramatic.
- Agreeing to conditions or dates you have not properly considered.
