About the role
This interview tests whether you can take a public health question from study design through field delivery, analysis and reporting. The panel is looking for sound methodological choices, respect for participants, careful interpretation and recommendations that match the evidence.
How to prepare
- Review a public health study you helped deliver and map your contribution from protocol to final report.
- Practise comparing common quantitative and qualitative designs for questions about access, behaviour and programme outcomes.
- Prepare an example of a field problem that threatened data quality and how you resolved it.
- Revise informed consent, confidentiality, protocol deviations and the escalation of participant safety concerns.
- Choose a finding you can explain to both a technical researcher and a programme manager.
Common mistakes
- Naming a study design without explaining why it answers the question.
- Treating consent as a form rather than an ongoing process.
- Claiming that an association proves causation.
- Giving recommendations that go beyond the data.
