About the role
This interview tests whether you can run a restaurant shift through busy periods while protecting guest experience and operating standards. The panel will look for visible floor leadership, sound judgement on complaints, accurate controls and constructive management of servers and kitchen relationships.
How to prepare
- Map out how you would brief a team, assign sections and monitor tables during a busy service.
- Prepare examples of recovering a poor guest experience and correcting a team member's performance.
- Review opening, closing, cash reconciliation, stock and reservation checks used in restaurant operations.
- Refresh practical food hygiene, allergen communication and incident escalation steps.
- Practise explaining how you balance service speed with order accuracy and guest care.
Common mistakes
- Trying to solve every floor problem personally instead of directing the team.
- Offering compensation before listening, checking the facts and following authority limits.
- Treating cash, stock or allergy controls as tasks for somebody else.
- Describing discipline without coaching, documentation or a fair follow-up.
