About the role
This practice tests your ability to move beyond risk registers and give advice that management can act on. Interviewers will assess how you identify material exposure, test controls, design proportionate responses and communicate uncertainty to executives and boards.
How to prepare
- Review how objectives, risk appetite, scenarios, controls and assurance fit together.
- Choose an example where you changed a risk response after understanding operational constraints.
- Prepare to distinguish a control design gap from a failure in consistent operation.
- Practise summarising a complex risk in terms of cause, event, consequence and management action.
- Think through how you coordinate assurance providers and track agreed actions to closure.
Common mistakes
- Ranking risks by intuition without showing the assumptions behind the assessment.
- Recommending more controls before checking whether existing controls work.
- Using technical risk language that obscures the business decision.
- Treating management disagreement as resistance rather than evidence to examine.
