About the role
This interview tests whether you can lead a demanding external audit from acceptance through reporting while maintaining independence and quality. The panel will look for sound judgement on material issues, credible communication with senior stakeholders and evidence that you can build a strong engagement team.
How to prepare
- Review an audit you led from planning to opinion and identify the decisions that most affected quality.
- Prepare an example of how you resolved a difficult accounting estimate or reporting judgement.
- Revisit how you set materiality, use specialists and respond when planned procedures do not produce enough evidence.
- Practise explaining a contentious finding in plain language suitable for an audit committee.
- Choose examples that show how your coaching improved the quality of a manager's work.
Common mistakes
- Focusing only on completing procedures and not on the judgement behind the audit opinion.
- Claiming team achievements without explaining your own decisions and review work.
- Treating a difficult client relationship as a reason to soften a well-supported finding.
- Discussing confidential client details instead of using properly anonymised examples.
