About the role
This interview focuses on electrical building services from concept and load planning through installation and commissioning. The panel will test whether you can design resilient systems, coordinate limited space, diagnose performance problems and lead decisions that balance safety, reliability, capital cost and operating cost.
How to prepare
- Review load estimation, diversity, voltage drop, fault levels, discrimination and earthing at a senior design level.
- Prepare a project example involving grid supply, generators, inverters or another backup arrangement.
- Think through how you coordinate risers, plant rooms, ceiling zones and builder's work openings.
- Revise your approach to witnessing tests and proving controls, protection and changeover sequences.
- Choose an example where you converted a client's operational need into a practical electrical design.
Common mistakes
- Quoting installed capacity without explaining diversity, starting currents or future allowance.
- Treating backup power as equipment selection rather than an operational and controls strategy.
- Ignoring access, heat, fire stopping or maintenance space when discussing containment routes.
- Calling a system commissioned because equipment starts without proving protective and control functions.
