About the role
This is a technical and delivery interview for an engineer responsible for reliable irrigation systems. The panel will test your hydraulic reasoning, water and energy judgement, design documentation, site control and ability to diagnose performance after commissioning.
How to prepare
- Revise crop water demand, pressure loss, pump duty, zoning and application uniformity calculations.
- Choose a design where site constraints changed your initial technical approach.
- Prepare an example of controlling a contractor substitution or installation defect.
- Review the measurements you use when auditing a system in operation.
- Practise explaining a drawing and calculation to a non-engineering farm manager.
Common mistakes
- Selecting equipment before confirming the water source, field conditions and crop demand.
- Giving design calculations without stating assumptions or allowable operating limits.
- Ignoring power reliability, maintenance access and operator capability.
- Accepting installation changes without documented technical review.
