About the role
This interview tests whether you can take a pipeline from design basis through construction and commissioning with its technical interfaces intact. The panel will assess your command of hydraulic and mechanical design, field practicality and how you resolve incomplete or conflicting inputs.
How to prepare
- Prepare a pipeline design example and explain the governing cases and assumptions.
- Review hydraulics, material selection, wall thickness, stability, crossings and protection philosophy.
- Think through construction, testing, dewatering and commissioning risks for land and offshore routes.
- Prepare an example where field information forced a design change.
- Practise explaining how you verify calculations, vendor inputs and multidisciplinary interfaces.
Common mistakes
- Reciting design equations without establishing the operating cases and assumptions.
- Treating constructability and commissioning as matters for other teams.
- Ignoring uncertainty in survey, geotechnical or process inputs.
