About the role
This interview tests how you investigate and resolve cargo and other shipping claims from first notice to settlement or closure. The panel is looking for disciplined evidence review, careful reading of transport terms, timely mitigation and commercial negotiation. You should show that you can manage deadlines and communicate a defensible position to different parties.
How to prepare
- Revise the documents commonly used to establish a cargo movement, condition, quantity and claimed loss.
- Prepare one claim where you built a chronology from incomplete or conflicting evidence.
- Practise separating the facts, liability position, value and next actions in a short case update.
- Review how you track contractual deadlines, reserves, recovery prospects and correspondence.
- Think through practical mitigation steps for damaged, delayed or deteriorating cargo.
Common mistakes
- Accepting a claim value without checking causation, supporting records and mitigation.
- Assuming every discrepancy proves carrier liability.
- Letting negotiation begin before you understand the strongest and weakest evidence.
- Missing a notice or contractual deadline because the file is poorly organised.
