About the role
An SDET uses software engineering skills to make quality checks fast, dependable and useful to delivery teams. The interview explores framework design, layered test coverage, coding standards and the judgement needed to separate product defects from unreliable tests.
How to prepare
- Review test layering and decide which risks belong at unit, service, contract and user interface levels.
- Prepare to explain the structure and design choices of an automation framework you built.
- Practise tracing an intermittent failure through logs, test data, dependencies and timing.
- Think of an example where you influenced code design to make a feature easier to test.
Common mistakes
- Measuring quality by the number of automated checks rather than the risks they cover.
- Building abstractions that hide failures and make diagnosis harder.
- Treating quality as the testing team's responsibility alone.
