About the role
This interview focuses on improving access, participation and progress for pupils with additional learning needs. The panel is looking for evidence-led teaching, ambitious but realistic planning, positive behaviour support and respectful coordination with families and other professionals.
How to prepare
- Prepare an example of assessment information that changed your teaching for one pupil.
- Review how you write specific learning targets and monitor small steps of progress.
- Think of an adaptation that preserved the original learning goal.
- Rehearse how you explain reasonable classroom support to a colleague or parent.
- Review safeguarding, confidentiality and escalation procedures in your setting.
Common mistakes
- Defining a pupil by a diagnosis instead of discussing strengths, barriers and evidence.
- Reducing the level of challenge when an access adjustment would be more suitable.
- Promising confidentiality when a safeguarding concern must be reported.
- Presenting family or specialist input as an obstacle rather than useful evidence.
