About the role
This is a technical building structures interview covering analysis, design, detailing and support during construction. The panel will test whether you understand the behaviour behind software results, coordinate changes carefully and issue advice that keeps the structure safe and buildable.
How to prepare
- Select a concrete or steel building and explain its stability system and load path from roof to foundation.
- Review the assumptions, load combinations and serviceability checks used in your recent designs.
- Prepare an example where you found a modelling or detailing error before issue.
- Think through how you manage late architectural openings and building services penetrations.
- Check the official professional body for current registration rules if the role requires registration.
Common mistakes
- Reporting software output without explaining the load path or checking whether the result is credible.
- Focusing on member strength while ignoring stability, deflection, cracking or robustness.
- Proposing a site fix before confirming the as-built condition and design implications.
- Speaking vaguely about coordination without naming the clash, decision and revision control used.
