About the role
A tower rigger installs and maintains equipment at height while protecting the crew, the public and the network. Safety is central to this interview, alongside basic rigging knowledge, tool control, weather judgement and disciplined communication between climbers and the ground team.
How to prepare
- Review pre-climb inspection, fall protection, rescue planning and permit controls.
- Practise explaining how tag lines and lifting plans help control equipment during a lift.
- Revise visual checks for harnesses, connectors, ropes, ladders and anchor points.
- Prepare an example of stopping or changing a task because conditions were unsafe.
- Review final checks for fasteners, cable routing, weatherproofing and tool inventory.
Common mistakes
- Treating a permit as a substitute for checking conditions at the tower.
- Saying you would continue because a supervisor wants the job finished.
- Forgetting rescue readiness when describing pre-climb checks.
- Ignoring dropped-object prevention and tool accountability.
